In the small town of Chelsea, Michigan, an entire community came together to do something beautifully old-fashioned—they formed a human chain to move nearly 9,100 books from one bookstore location to another, all by hand.
Around 300 residents showed up to help the owner of Serendipity Books make the move to a new storefront just a block away. From toddlers to seniors, each person passed stacks of books down the line with care and smiles, transforming a potentially tedious move into a joyful community event. The whole effort took less than two hours.
“It was such a feel-good moment,” said bookstore owner Michelle Tuplin. “It reminded me how beautiful this town is.”
