What’s truly Important?

What’s truly important? I have to ask myself that more than I care to admit.

We live in a time where many of us are deeply divided, and I seem to be rather gifted at setting people off. Morality, politics, economics, even music and sports. I feel deeply passionate about my beliefs, and if a friend wants to hear them (even sometimes when they clearly would rather not), I’m happy to share them. This often leads to deep divisions, hurt feelings, anger, even lost friendships. It’s so easy to see the world in terms of liberals versus conservatives, Republicans versus Democrats, traditionalists versus progressives, Beatles versus The Stones (there’s nothing to argue there–The Beatles are the best band ever, period, if you disagree you are CLEARLY WRONG). Is it worth the animus it can create when there is only one division that is truly important—it’s, in fact, everything?

Jesus is More Important

You either know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, or you do not. You have either called on His name, acknowledging you are in desperate need of a Savior, and believe Jesus was sent to die on the cross for those sins, rose from that death on the third day, and is coming back for His people—soon, very soon. That’s it; that’s the only division that truly matters. We are talking about an eternity in Heaven or Hell—the Bible is crystal clear on this. We can differ on everything else, but I’m constantly reminded that God loves us deeply, so deeply that He sent His Son to die on the cross for every one of us. Every means EVERY. Even those I disagree with, and especially those who have yet to call on His name.

I’m trying to remember this more so that when our differences inevitably arise, they won’t impede our ability to talk about what truly matters—JESUS!!!
