You’re Not Alone: Teen Creates Teddy Bears for Kids with Scoliosis
At just 13 years old, Nora found a way to bring comfort and understanding to children navigating the challenges of scoliosis—by creating custom teddy bears outfitted with miniature braces, casts, and rods.
This thoughtful project stemmed from her own journey with the condition. Having received a teddy bear during her surgery at Children’s Hospital Colorado—one that even came with X-ray details—Nora was inspired to extend that same gift to others.
Now, she hand-makes and donates these comforting companions to pediatric patients, offering not just a plush toy, but a symbol of empathy and shared experience. In each handcrafted detail, the bear says: ‘I get it—and you’re not alone.’
“I received a teddy bear with my surgery,” Nora shared. “It helped—and now I hope my bear can do the same.”

✨ One Thing Practice: Create Comfort for Someone Else
Inspired by Nora, try doing one small, tangible thing to bring comfort to someone today:
- Write a note of encouragement to a child or teen facing a medical challenge
- Craft or personalize a small gift or card for someone in your community
- Donate a stuffed animal, book, or care item to a children’s hospital or support program
Small gestures—especially when thoughtful—can make someone feel seen and supported.
